Recycling

Basically, garden recycling is a form of salvage. This can be great fun, so don’t be too hasty to get rid of so called 'rubbish'. Lots of items thrown away can be used in the garden. Old boots as novelty hanging baskets (my dads boots are hanging on the shed with lobelia trailing from them!), old watering cans as planters, old pruned branches as plant supports.

We have clematis and jasmine planted with old cherry tree branches to give them support. This method looks natural when established and costs nothing! All lawn clippings can be either composted or left on the lawn to allow the minerals to return to the soil. Consider investing in a garden shredder, almost all branches can be shredded easily and placed on the borders or raised beds to give a weed suppressant and moisture retaining blanket (known as mulch).
